On the way home I arranged to break up the trip by staying overnight in one of the medieval hill towns in Tuscany. San Gimignano is the best preserved with 15 of it's original 70 towers still standing. The town is charming, the views of the countryside blew us away and we enjoyed a walk along the wall surrounding the city. Our hotel, La Cisterna, was one of only 2 within the city walls and was absolutely wonderful with knockout views from almost every room. It was a good end to our trip and we had a nice drive home just in time for Halloween.
