Our first Saturday in Italy we took the Metropolitana to the downtown area called Mergellina. We took a nice walk down to the Villa Comunale where there is a park along the water front. There is a lot of neat little rides for small children, jungle gyms and a small outdoor roller skating rink. Here is also where the oldest aquarium in Europe is located. I hear it isn't very advanced but interesting because of it's antiquity and great for children. Unfortunately, they were closed for renovations. We enjoyed a slice of pizza at an outdoor cafe and enjoyed watching the Italian families together.
Later we walked further into the city to the Galleria Umberto with it's iron and glass domes and upscale shops. By the time we got there it was 1:00pm and the stores were closing for riposo (1-4pm) so we will have to go back.
